This page explains how the guides on Mattress Obsessions are written, which sources we rely on, and how we handle updates and corrections. Our guides were written by Eliza Ward. Mattress Obsessions is a small independent website; we do not test products hands-on and we do not give products scores or ratings. Read more on our How We Research and Choose Products page.
Sources for health and safety information
When a guide says something about health, safety or sleep (for example, infant sleep, back pain or allergies), we base it on these sources, in this order:
- Official health and safety bodies and research: the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and its federal safety rules, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and peer-reviewed research.
- Plain-language health information from medical organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and the UK’s NHS, used to explain a point from the first group, not on their own.
- Manufacturer specifications, used only for product facts such as materials, sizes, certifications, warranties and trial periods. Certifications are checked in the certifier’s own database where possible.
We do not use Amazon reviews, other review or affiliate websites, forums or social media posts as evidence for health or safety claims.
Claims we do not make
- We do not say that a product cures, treats or prevents any disease or condition.
- We do not call a product “non-toxic” or “chemical-free”. We name the specific certification instead, if the product has one.
- We do not promise that a product is completely safe or guarantee any health result.
- We do not claim hands-on testing, lab testing or expert reviewers.
Citations
Health and safety statements are marked with numbered citations, like [1], that link to a Sources list at the end of the guide. Each source links to the original page so you can check it yourself.
Not medical advice
Our guides are general information, not medical advice. If you have a health concern, such as ongoing pain or a sleep problem, please talk to a doctor. For infant sleep, follow the safe sleep guidance from the AAP and your child’s doctor.
Dates and updates
We update a guide when products, prices, certifications or official guidance change. Each guide keeps its original published date. The “Last updated” date changes only when we make a real change to the content, not for small fixes or to make a page look new.
Corrections
If you find a mistake or out-of-date information, please tell us through our Contact page. We check every report against the sources above and correct the guide when we find an error.
Independence and affiliate links
Some links in our guides are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, and we may also earn a commission from other retailers. This does not change the price you pay. Commissions never decide which products we include or how we describe them, and we do not accept payment from brands to be included in our guides. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
