Babies and toddlers
- Babies under 1 should sleep on their backs on a firm, flat crib, bassinet or play yard mattress, with nothing in the sleep space but a fitted sheet. Twin mattresses and soft memory foam are not for babies.[1][2]

- Certified Materials – CertiPUR-US covers the foam, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 covers fabrics, and GREENGUARD Gold covers chemical emissions.[8][9][10] None of these labels means a mattress is allergy-proof or “hypoallergenic”. If your child has eczema or allergies, ask your pediatrician.
- Removable Cover – A removable, washable cover lets you wash off sweat, spills and accidents. Some mattresses have a fiberglass fire barrier under the cover; never remove a cover the label says to keep on. If you want to wash the cover, choose one the maker lists as removable and fiberglass-free.
- Waterproof Layer – A fitted waterproof mattress protector keeps the inside of any mattress dry.
- The Right Size – The mattress should fill the bed frame with no gaps. For bunk beds, check the maker’s maximum mattress thickness.[6]

- Availability: each mattress was listed as in stock on Amazon when we last checked (October 2026).
